Innovation, automation and customer service

Strong innovation and the use of automation have been the cornerstones of the company.

The products include all small-dimension spruce timber, such as a wide range of wood materials for packaging and pallet making, dry kiln dried lumber, various types of siding and siderails, boards and wood pellets.

Since 2008, we have been processing all the raw material used by the mill into either sawn timber or pellets.

We produce heat for the factory with our own batch heating plant and use electricity, which is 100% green energy. We are also suppliers of industrial lines.

Our expertise includes the design and construction of factory lines. The company employs around 30 people and processes over 60,000 cubic metres of sausages per year.

history

1999

Establishment of Elimäki

The company was founded in 1999 based on an idea by Arvo Huuhtanen: whether the thin, rounded pieces of wood produced from purila, a by-product of veneer turning in plywood/LVL factories, could be used for something other than wood chips. The first step was to develop an automatic feeder for the purila. Once it was proven, a whole line of purlin sawing lines developed around it. During 2000, it became clear from a technical point of view that the commercial potential was confirmed and the business was launched in Elimäki as a core focus for the production of frozen material, with Aki Huuhtanen as Managing Director.

Metsä Wood

The activities and clientele expanded every year. The products were mainly sleeper wood and dry kiln dried wood. Truckloads of Purila began to flow from Metsä Wood's Lohja plywood factory and the plywood factories in Punkaharju and Suolahti towards the Elimäki factory.

Move to Nastola (now Lahti)

As customer numbers grew and became more stable, ideas for new products and opportunities began to come to life. The company found new premises in Nastola (now part of Lahti), where it moved in 2004. The larger premises enabled the company to develop and expand its activities.

New sawing line enables new products

When the company moved to Nastola, the sawing line was expanded, which enabled the manufacture of new types of products. Various types of slats and boards were added to the product portfolio. The idea was born to see if it would be possible to further process the sawdust and wood chips from the sawmill, so that no waste would be generated in the processing.

2007 - 2008

Pelleting of chips

Planning for a wood pelleting line started in 2006. After an evaluation, the Amandus Kahl pellet machine was chosen as the heart of the line and has proved to be the perfect choice: a reliable workhorse that tirelessly pushes 6 mm wood pellets to market. Jarkko Huuhtanen joined the operation to lead the project and the line was put into production during 2008. All the chips produced were then processed into energy, i.e. wood pellets.

First deliveries abroad

The first customers abroad were found on the Norwegian coast: fish farms. The rafts were used as pallets for the fish, which were clicked together by automatic lines. Precision was required in dimensional tolerances to keep the automatic lines running smoothly - accuracy and customer-specific dimensions have always been one of the core aspects of our business.

2013

Purple collection UPM-Kymmene Wood Oy

In order to grow our operations, we started negotiating with UPM-Kymmene Wood Oy about the possibility of buying sawn veneer from their Pellosniemi plywood mill. The goal was achieved when we delivered the line of purlins we had designed to them during 2013. The collection line was able to fully automatically collect purlins from one turning line into two pallets, which are emptied by a truck driver as needed on a log rack and delivered to Imex Wood Oy in Uuteenkylä.

2015

Expansion of outward deliveries

A broader raw material base enabled the company to expand its customer base and products were supplied to the German fruit packaging and lava industry and to Asia for bedding.

Garbage collection Metsä Wood Punkaharju

With the upgrade of Metsä Wood Punkaharju's plywood factory, we supplied them with a can collector line that allowed them to collect turned can blanks fully automatically.

Purple collection UPM-Kymmene Wood Oy

A new fully automatic purlin collection system was delivered to UPM-Kymmene Wood Oy's Pellosniemi plywood mill during 2019. With the line, all the purlins produced at the mill could be collected and delivered for further processing to Imex Wood Oy's factory in Lahti.

2020

Garbage collection Metsä Wood Punkaharju

Metsä Wood Punkaharju's LVL expansion created the need for a second can collector line, which was delivered in 2020. The line was able to automatically collect the can so that a big loader could unload the can in no time.

Purple collection Stora Enso Varkaus

We were able to deliver a modern, non-stop process supporting picking line to Stora Enso's LVL plant in Varkaus. The picking is done by a pneumatic robot hand and the stacking of the briquettes is done by a continuously operating picking carriage, which is emptied by the driver independently as needed without stopping once.
